2016: Resolution

Now that I’ve concluded my 2015: in Review, I’d like to to start the year sharing my plans and goals for 2016 with you.

This year, I’m taking on a new approach to goal setting. Instead of making a laundry list of annual tasks, I’ll be using the OKR method used by Google, Intel and other internet rockstars.

2016’s Objectives & Key Results

The “theme” for this year is to:

“Build a Complete Self”.

The emphasis here is on ‘complete’, striving for personal development in the following areas:

  1. Achieve a Healthy BMI.
  2. Gain Clarity of Mind.
  3. Gain Experience.
  4. Build Tribe.
  5. Develop Craft.
  6. Achieve Financial Stability.

After identifying the things that I want to work on, I broke down each objective into key results; tangible ways of breaking down my progress into initiatives and milestones.

2016 Quarter’s objective and key results look something like this…

2016 OKRs

The real benefit of the OKR system is empowering me to be both ambitious and focused at the same time. I’m striving to do a lot, so I need to relentlessly prioritize my energy to what’s on my list.

Guiding Behaviors for 2016

1. Ship it.

Done is better than perfect. This year is all about high output. One challenge at a time. Ship it. Finish. Move on to the next one. Go.

2. Do Things that Matter.

This year I want to make the most of my time, my energy, and my weekends; cutting out a lot of “bullshit” and focusing on things that add the most value to my life.

I wish you all the best in achieving your goals in the coming year and highly recommend using the OKR system as a method for finding focus and making the most of the new year.

Cheers to 2016!
